Soft Silent and slow, descends the snow

Well I took these the other day,It was so pretty out! I love the way the snow softens everything. This is the house taken from out in the pasture. All the animals were in the barn staying warm exept for a few ducks. They were actually swimming in the creek right before I took this picture. I can't believe they dont freeze!
And Our Dog Sam was happy to be out playing in the snow as well! He reminds me of a big polar bear.

Snow Day

Well we are getting a whole lot of snow today! By the end of this storm we are supposed to have around 10 inches on the ground! A good day to stay in with a movie and some hot chocolate I think! As you can see everyone is in the hibernation mood around the farm. This is Corky (the pot belly pig) all snug in his bed while the snow flutters down. Makes me want to do the same thing. I hope Brad can get out of the driveway tomorrow mourning, The back country roads always tend to be the worst.I always worry about him driving to work in the winter since he has a pretty long drive on I-80. Food,Inc....A must see!!!

This movie is a must see for everyone!Makes me want to be a self sufficient farm in the near future! What lies we have been told and it really shows how we are controlled like a herd of sheep!

An intrduction from the website -
filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli—the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

While revealing many concerns about our food system, FOOD, Inc.also reminds us that we each have the ability to change the system through our food choices.

Eggs For sale!

Not all of our hens are laying but we still manage to get around a dozen a day! And Since the farmer's market is done for the season I have no way to sell them. If you or anyone yo know is interested in buying Fresh brown eggs just let me know. They are $2.50 a dozen.Price will go up to $3.00 this spring and summer when they will be free range. They are beautiful eggs! With dark yellow yolks and hard shells..Sure signs of healthy farm fresh eggs!

New Chicken Coop

Yaaay our Chicken house is almost fisnished!!

Our chickens have been living in a little hog hut all summer (Temporary) And mostly free range. So before the colder weather hit we new we had to get a chicken house built. So here it is! Its not quite finished of course.
It still needs a door.some tin roofing and to be painted. And we also have to get some nesting boxes made and a roost. Its 12x12 and a lot warmer that the little hog hut!! Its on big heavy duty metal skids so It can be moved around the pasture easily so our chickens can be fed free range easily.Makes for healthier eggs!
Still trying to decide if I want to paint it or stain it. I think I'm going to go with a red tin roof so it matches the red barns. So It will either be yellow with a red tin roof or a honey colored stain.

I love Barn Quilt blocks!

A new thing I have came across is Barn quilt blocks. I Love them! I think they add so much charm and color to a building! I think I may make one for our newly built chicken house. We will see how that goes LOL. Now what pattern to choose? It would only be right to choose the hen and chicks pattern I suppose,But I also like the look of the peace star as pictured.. Decisions, decisions.
